Cellular Immunotherapy Team

Research

Research focus of our team is immune cell mediated drug targeting. By combining immune cell based therapeutic strategies with innovative drug delivery concepts we aim at developing novel therapeutic options for the treatment of cancer. Using living immune cells, which have an intrinsic ability of tracing and infiltrating diseased sites, as transport system for anti-cancer drugs ensures that the toxic pharmaceuticals are selectively delivered to the tumor tissue. Moreover, relatively small drug amounts can be administered to bring therapeutically effective doses to the site of action. Thus, strong adverse effects typically caused by systemic chemotherapies are unlikely to occur. (For more detailed information see Annual Report 2010 and Annual Report 2011.)
