Introduction to KIST Europe
KIST Europe, which was established in Saarbruecken, Germany in 1996, has been playing an important role in broadening international relationships in the field of basic and applied research. The main goals of KIST Europe are the creation of a forum for technical and economic cooperation between EU and Korea, the evelopment of a global network for the promotion of scientific and technological cooperation (European Union countries) and the contribution for the development of innovative pollution-control technologies.

Location
Saarbruecken, the capital of Saarland, is located in the center of Europe. By the benefit of the geographical position, It has been a crossroad of european economy, culture, education exchange among surrounding countries.

Brief History
  • Mutual agreement on the establishment of KIST Europe between Germany and Korea (March, 1995)
  • Foundation ceremony (February, 1996)
  • Building completion ceremony (April, 2000)
  • 10th anniversary ceremony(April, 2006)
  • Inauguration 2nd construction ceremony(May, 2008)
Personnel
 
The number of staff has increased from 7 to 48 in 2009.
Now more or less 50 staffs of various nationalities work in KIST Europe.

 

Budget
   
The budget of KIST Europe which started from 0,84 Mill. EUR in 1996 has now reached
6,44 Mill. EUR. This represents an increase of about 670% since 1996.
As of today, 13% of total budget and 21% of project fund come from EU commission or
german government.
